Dehydrated Maca powder

ymara Food Organic Maca

Maca, or Lepidium meyenii, is a root plant grown at high altitudes in the Peruvian Andes. Maca has been known for its medicinal properties since the Neolithic period.

This tuber is one of the very few plants that can survive in the extreme climatic conditions of the Andean highlands (between 3,500 and 4,200 metres above sea level).

Maca grows in semi-desert conditions, under relentless sunshine and high temperatures during the day, intense frost at night, strong and sustained winds that dry up most plants causing significant soil erosion

It is still found in the wild in the Andes, in the highlands of the Puna, where it is called “chichicara” in Quechua and “januckara” in Aymara.

This plant is mainly known as “Peruvian ginseng” or “Peruvian viagra” because of its ability to enhance libido and help to fight male infertility.

The best way to enjoy organic maca

In Peru, maca is processed and enjoyed raw, cooked or dried. Peruvians use maca to bake cookies, cakes, chips and drinks.

Maca tastes quite pleasant, often compared to salted caramel. You can enjoy it in powder form and decorate your smoothies, milk shakes, fruit juices or other milk-based drinks. Its malty taste makes it ideal for adding to a cake, soup or quiche.
